Two years ago today, February 3, 2007, I met the cheese to my macaroni (my awesome husband Rob). I wanted to post a blog in celebration of this. I have gone through a few of our pictures taken early on in 'dating stage' and have picked a few that I want to show off.
I was set up with Rob by my sweet Grandma who decided I needed to start dating. She told me, "You need a boyfriend! How come you don't have a boyfriend?" She said this with all the love she could give, but it still sounded kinda harsh. :) She called me up one day and told me she had someone she wanted to set me up with and asked me if it was okay that he had my number. The scary part was that he was sort of related to me, but really not. Rob's stepmother is the sister-in-law to my great aunt. There is no blood involved and we will not have children with four ears or two heads! But, still the thought of how we could go to the same family reunions still gave me the freak-outs. I told her it was okay that she had given him my number...he wouldn't call me anyway right? Not to be really harsh - okay, yeah! I want to be harsh. Maybe it's just me, but guys never call when they say they'll call!
Seriously though, I was never a big 'dater'. I liked guys, but for some reason I was the girl that didn't date all that much and didn't care. I was an 'Untouchable' - so termed in High School. I had kind of dated, or stalked, other guys that might have been cheese material; but, in the end they were either too old, too mushy, or too dry a cheese ~ which did not suite me.
Unlike I thought, Rob did call me and we ended up having the greatest first phone conversation in the history of mankind. We talked for almost half an hour and then he finally asked me to go out with him. I had no idea what he looked like at this point, though, and that bothered me. Call me vain ~ and I was ~ but, I wanted to know what I was getting into with this blind date. So, I evaluated the facts. I knew where he lived and I knew that he graduated from Olympus. So, I did a couple of "drive-by's" to see if I could see him outside. Nothing. I really wanted to see what he looked like. My next idea was the winner and actually worked. I drove to Olympus (also where I graduated) and went to the Yearbook Classroom where they keep all the old yearbooks and said I was investigating a former student and needed to look through a yearbook. The students looked confused as they handed me the oh-too-easy-to-get yearbook. I looked at Rob's picture and thought to myself, "Not bad. Looks a little young though. It's been almost six years, though ~ I'm sure he looks better." Horrible, I know. But, I am a girl who like to know what she is doing before she does it...I like to be prepared.
Five days later, I was in my bathroom curling my hair and freaking out about what to wear for my blind date that night. I had gotten all ready and was pacing around my house just waiting for the clock to say 7:00. At 7:00, the doorbell rang and I put on my smilie face and opened the door. There, standing before me was one of the most unattractive men I had ever seen. He was scruffy (the gross scruffy), had unkept greasy hair, and was wearing a sweatshirt and pajama bottoms. I was mad. I had spent two hours dolling myself up for the butt-faced miscreant!!! He could at least have the decentcy to dress nice and take a shower!
I then looked at him with my angry eyes and he asked me, "Is your dad here?" That was bold! Why the heck did he need to see my dad?
I said, "No he's not."
Then he handed me a check and said, "Will you give this to him for me?", and walked off. I then realized who he was and what he was doing. He was my dad's renter from one of his apartments coming to drop off this month's rent. I was sooooooooo grateful that he wasn't taking me out on the date! HE WAS NOT ROB!!!!! I shut my door and realized that I was shaking and sweating really bad. So, I ran to my bathroom and put on another fresh layer of deodorant on. No sooner had I done that, my doorbell rang again. I walked nervously to the door waving my arms to try and air-out my underarms and opened the door as slowly as possible.
It was Rob. He looked so nice with Kakhi pants, a nice white pullover American Eagle sweater over a button-up shirt. His hair was marvelous and he smelled delicious. He had (and still has) the handsomest smile and the most gorgeous blue eyes I had ever seen. It was like electricity right then.
That was the first moment of the rest of my life.

This is the first picture we ever took of "us" as a couple. We were on our 5th date and I was going to meet his friends for the first time. We went over to Cameron and Rachel Bailey's pad, ate really good pizza from Nick N' Willy's Pizza (really good), and played 'Settlers'. It was a fun night.
This picture was taken at the Paris Ice Caves in Idaho, near Bear Lake. Rob came with me to my annual Evans Family Reunion at Bear Lake. We had only been dating like 5 months and were not even thinking about marriage. This was just a fun time to get to know each other outside of the normal setting.
When we were in the Cave, I slipped in dog crap (because it was on ice) and fell on my butt. Luckily, it wasn't in the crap. That was still a pleasant moment.
This was a fun picture of me and Rob the night we went and set off fireworks with Cameron and Rachel. Rob lit this ginormous one and Cameron jumped over it. I think it smolked his manly-parts a little and we told his wife they might never have children again...but all is well and they had another beautiful little girl!

Cute story!! I am happy you found a great guy jess ;)
